EPECARE Junior Responder Program

At EPECARE we are passionate about establishing sustainable solutions for emergency preparedness and disaster response and recovery. There is no strategy more sustainable than training the next generation of community leaders and emergency responders.

The EPECARE Junior Responder program teaches students in resource-limited communities about potential local hazards and how to safely and responsibly respond to them.

Students are trained in the concepts of prevention, preparedness and recovery in disaster situations. Curriculum instructs students in skills such as how to:

  • Identify and anticipate hazards
  • Extinguish small fires
  • Provide first aid to those who are injured
  • Reduce fire hazards in the home and workplace
  • Help reduce survivor stress

Those who complete the Junior Responder Program are poised to serve their communities and help take care of their schools and homes, both in preparing and responding to emergencies large and small. Junior Responders can provide assistance in their community’s year round by:

  • Participating in disaster drills and exercises
  • Presenting fire safety education
  • Addressing safety issues in their school or community
  • Providing peer mentoring
  • Assisting in preparedness outreach
